Ten years ago, a broadcast of the Japanese cartoon Pokemon featured a prolongued, pulsing light transposed over a spiral effect in a characters eyes. As a direct result, several epileptic viewers went into full-on siezures and thousands more reported becoming disoriented or nauseous. The "non-lethal" weapons initiative is pretty scary, since they seem to do heinous permatent damage, but the siezure-inducing light rays' effects seem to be temporary.
