The Winner
Title: Yes We Can
Based on: The Wizard of Oz
Submitted by: Webmonkees
Congratulations to this year's winner, Webmonkees for this wonderfully creative and artistic imagining of a recruitment poster for the flying monkeys in The Wizard of Oz. I always thought they had inexplicably good morale.
Wait, I can hear you thinking, did he say, "this year's winner?" Yes indeedy, I believe this is worth doing on an anual basis. Unless it's not, in which case it might stay as a bi-annual kind of thing. Do check out all the finalists and entries -- they're all really quite excellent. This year's contest was brought to you by Marvellous Hairy, (Available on Kindle for $1.99, Amazon for $10.99, and lots of other places too.)
The Runner Up
Title: The Exciting New Soylent Bar
Based on: Soylent Green
Submitted by: Javier B.
I love the tagline for this one: "You're tastier than you think!"
This came in second place by a margin of two votes (out of a total of 216, so you can see it was a pretty close run thing.)
Finalists
Okay, I'll admit it, I wimped out. Getting the list down to five was impossible, and to be honest, six was brutal too, but I just can't afford to give away so many copies of Marvellous Hairy. Thanks to everyone for their creativity and willingness to play!
You can check out the poll results here -- the voting was very close!

Vintage Ads of Fictional Futures
Here's the concept: find a vintage ad, and then create a product from a created world — it can be from a book, movie, TV, etc. It doesn't have to be science fiction; you could go with a fantasy world, an alternate reality, whatever.
How to enter:
- create your masterpiece (a jpg, png, pfd or gif, please)
- post it to your blog, Flickr, Tumblr, Posterous … or just email it to me
- let me know about it, and what it's based on, in the comments here, by email (markarayner-at-gmail-dot-com) or Twitter (@markarayner). (If you want a specific title/credit, and a link to a website, let me know that too.)
- they will go in a gallery above
- do it by midnight, Monday October 4th (2010)
- wait for the aplomb and/or ridicule of your peers
- I'll narrow it down to a shortlist of five, and then everyone can vote on those.
The Prizes:
The winner chooses from:- a walk-on appearance in the novel I’m currently working on (this will be the last chance for a year at least)
- a t-shirt from either of my shops, CafePress or Wordans
- whatever the winner didn't choose
- a copy of Marvellous Hairy (or The Amadeus Net, if you've already bought it)
- $2 off a copy of Marvellous Hairy from Amazon.com.
Go be awesome!
